Senior scores two goals in victory

Box Score DULUTH, Minn. – Forward #Joey Martini# (Sr.-Calgary, Alta.) scored two goals to lead the second-ranked St. Scholastica hockey team to victory over Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) rival Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugolds in their last home contest of the regular season Saturday night.

Martini's line mate #AJ Tucker# (Sr.-Fort Frances, Ont.) earned one assist on the evening and is now tied for 14th on the all-time Saints scoring list with 118 career points.

The Blugolds got on the board first with a goal at 12:38 of the first period, but #Carter Davis# (Fr.-Moose Jaw, Sask.) and the Saints answered back quickly, just after the 15-minute mark. #Jeremy Dawes# (Fr.-Winnipeg, Man.) and #Dustin DeGagne# (Jr.-Winnipeg, Man.) had the assists, the first of two on the night for both Saints.

Goaltender #Steve Bounds# (Sr.-Airdrie, Alta.) played solid between the pipes for CSS, but his defense was even stronger, credited with nine blocks on the evening. Bounds stopped 18 of 19 shots on target to earn his 16th victory of the season. His Blugold counterpart, Tyler Brigl, made 30 saves on 33 attempts by St. Scholastica.

The Saints will play their final regular season game next Friday when they travel across the bridge for a rematch with Wisconsin-Superior. The Yellowjackets clinched the No.1 seed in the NCHA Peter's Cup playoffs with a victory over Wis.-Stevens Point on Saturday evening, so the Saints will be battling for pride and playoff seeding.

With a St. Scholastica win AND a Wis.-Stout loss or tie against Wis.-River Falls next week, the Saints will finish second in the NCHA and clinch home-ice advantage through the first two rounds of the NCHA Peters Cup Tournament. The Saints can not finish lower in the standings than their current position, third.

The puck drops Friday evening at 7:05 p.m. at Wessman Arena on the Wis.-Superior campus, but all of the action can be heard live on ESPN Radio 560–WEBC.
