Chong scores for third straight game

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The seventh-ranked St. Scholastica hockey team lost its first Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) game this evening, falling to No. 3 St. Norbert College 4-2 at the Cornerstone Community Center.

The Saints fall to 6-2-2 overall and 3-1-2 in the league. The Green Knights snap a two game losing streak and improve to 10-2-1 overall and 7-1-0 in the conference.

The Green Knights got off to a fast start, scoring two goals in the opening period. Kyle Stroh scored with 11 minutes left in the period and Tyler Allen scored with less than five minutes to go. Both goals were even-strength. St. Norbert had a 10-6 shot advantage in the first 20 minutes.

CSS got on the board with 13 minutes to go in the second period when for the second night in a row, #Jordan Chong# (Sr.-North Vancouver, B.C.) scored a short-handed goal to make it 2-1. #Jeff Gagnon# (Sr.-Quesnel, B.C.) had the assist. Chong has now scored a goal in each of the last three games and Gagnon has seven assists in the last four contests. The Saints out-shot the Green Knights 9-6 in the second period.

However in the third period, St. Norbert put the contest away with a pair of Johan Ryd goals to extend the margin to 4-1. #Jeremy Dawes# (So.-Winnipeg, Man.) added a late goal for the Saints to make the final score 4-2. #Tyler Miller# (Fr.-Fort Frances, Ont.) and #Aaron Spotts# (Sr.-Spokane, Wash.) had the assists.

The Green Knights had a 27-23 shot advantage in the game. #Brennan Poderzay# (So.-Tower, Minn.) had 23 saves in the loss for CSS and B.J. O'Brien had 21 saves in the victory for the Green Knights. Tonight was the first CSS game this season in which neither team scored a power-play goal.

The Saints will host rival University of Wisconsin-Superior at Mars Lakeview Arena on Friday and Saturday. Both games will begin at 7:05 p.m. and can be seen live, courtesy of the iFan Sports Network, at csssaints.com. Saturday night's game will also be aired on My 9.
