GREEN BAY, Wis. – The seventh-ranked St. Scholastica hockey team blew a two-goal lead in the final two minutes only to comeback and win in overtime on a #Jordan Chong# (Sr.-North Vancouver, B.C.) short-handed goal as the Saints defeated third-ranked St. Norbert College 4-3 this evening at the Cornerstone Community Center.

The Saints improve to 6-1-2 overall and 3-0-2 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). The Green Knights has now lost two straight games and fall to 9-2-1 overall and suffer their first NCHA loss seven games in. CSS has now won four straight at the Cornerstone Community Center, with two those victories coming against St. Norbert.

The first period was relatively quiet as there were no goals scored and just two penalties committed. The Saints had an 8-5 shot advantage in the period.

Just 31 seconds into the second period, the Saints got on the board as #Jeff Gagnon# (Sr.-Quesnel, B.C.) scored his second of the season on the power-play. #Carter Davis# (So.-Moose Jaw, Sask.) and #Austin Brown# (So.-Lathrup Village, Mich.) had the assists. The Saints carried that 1-0 lead into the second intermission.

Then 1:09 seconds into the third period, #Jordan Baird# (Sr.-Port McNeill, B.C.) made it 2-0 scoring his third goal in as many games. Gagnon and Davis assisted the goal.

The Green Knights cut the CSS lead in half six minutes into the period when Nick Tabisz scored with a two-man advantage. With seven minutes left in regulation, #Riley Riddell# (Jr.-Wawota, Sask.) appeared to put the contest away with his fourth goal of the season to make it 3-1. Gagnon and Davis had the assists again.

Trailing by two goals, St, Norbert pulled its goaltender with over two minutes to go and made it 3-2 with the extra attacker on a Matt Boyd goal with 1:20 seconds left in the third period. CSS then committed a five-minute major penalty with 41 seconds left.

That meant the Green Knights had a 6-on-4 advantage the rest of the game with the extra attacker. St. Norbert would make the Saints pay as Tyler Allen scored with eight seconds left to tie it 3-3 and send it into overtime.

Since the Saints committed the major penalty, the Green Knights would still have the power-play for most of the overtime period. However, that didn't matter to Jordan Chong (North Vancouver, British Columbia/Dryden (SIJHL)) as he would take advantage of a Green Knights' turnover at the point and go in on a breakaway and give the Saints a 4-3 victory 1:27 seconds into overtime. That was Chong's seventh game-winning goal of his career.

The Saints out-shot the Green Knights 29-21 in the contest. #Zach Kleiman# (Sr.-Ottawa, Ont.) had 18 saves to earn the win in net for St. Scholastica. B.J. O'Brien had 25 saves in the loss for St. Norbert. There were a total of 10 penalties with seven committed by the Saints.

The Saints and Green Knights will do battle again tomorrow night at the Cornerstone Community Center. The puck drops at 7 p.m. and can be heard live on ESPN Radio 560-WEBC. It can also be viewed online, courtesy of the St. Norbert Athletics Department.
