DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team was out-scored 40-24 in the second half as it fell to the University of Wisconsin-Superior tonight 82-62 at Reif Gym in the Burns Wellness Commons.
The Saints have now lost seven straight games and fall to 1-8 overall, while the Yellowjackets win their second in a row and improve to 6-3. CSS has not lost seven straight games since the 2002-03 season.
The Saints led for the first four minutes of tonight's contest and then the lead would see-saw through the middle part of the half. The Saints had a six-point edge with 7:42 left in the half following a #Josh Kosloske# (
Fr.-Oakfield, Wis.) lay-up. The Yellowjackets responded with a 7-0 run to regain the lead. Superior then led by as much as six and went into the locker room with a 42-38 advantage.
There were six ties and nine lead changes in the first half. CSS shot 48-percent in the first half, while the Yellowjackets shot 57-percent. Both teams made three, 3-pointers and were 7-for-8 from the free throw line. The Saints out-rebounded the Yellowjackets 16-13 and had nine, second-chance points.
There would be just two field goals each in the first five minutes of the second half. Superior then went on an 11-0 run to extend its margin to 55-40. The Yellowjackets had another 7-0 run later in the half as the lead got as high as 26 points. Superior went on to complete the season sweep of the Saints by a score of 82-62.
The Saints shot just 33-percent in the second half to finish at 41-percent for the game. Superior shot 55-percent for the night and finished with nine, 3-point field goals, including six in the second half alone. The Yellowjackets out-scored the Saints in the paint 36-28.

Fr.-Andover, Minn.) added 10 points and had a team-high five rebounds. Jake Smith had a game-high 22 points for the Yellowjackets.
The Saints will have its final game before Christmas on Sunday when it hosts another Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) school in the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
