DULUTH, Minn. – The 13th-ranked St. Scholastica hockey team out-shot St. John's 53-21, but fell by a score of 3-1 this evening in the home opener at Mars Lakeview Arena.
The loss drops the Saints to 2-1-0 overall, while the Johnnies improve to 2-0-1. St. John's is 10-7-1 all-time against the Saints.

Fr.-St. Louis, Mo.) had the assist. Less than three minutes later, the Johnnies evened the score when Jascha Pettit scored an even-handed goal.
The score remained 1-1 into the third period, even though the Saints out-shot the Johnnies 23-2 in the second period. The key point of the contest was when the Saints were called for checking from behind with under five minutes left in regulation, which resulted in a five-minute major.
St. John's took over on the power-play and capitalized with 1:19 seconds remaining as it was Pettit scoring his second of the night to make it 2-1. The Saints then pulled the goaltender with a minute to go to make it 5-on-5, but Mike Wallgren walked in an empty net goal with 20 seconds left to make the final score 3-1 St. John's.

So.-Tower, Minn.) suffered his first collegiate loss with 18 saves in the contest. Tony Civello earned the win for St. John's, stopping 52 shots.
CSS had eight of the 11 penalties on the night. The Johnnies were 2-for-4 with the man advantage, while the Saints were 0-for-3.
