DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team travels to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point this weekend, for the Pointer Tip off. The tournament is a two day event. The other two teams participating besides UW-Stevens Point and CSS are Concordia-Moorhead and Rockford College.
The Saints will play Concordia-Moorhead first. Head-to-head the Saints are 0-2 all-time against the Cobbers with both games being played in Moorhead. The Saints are 1-0 on the year as they defeated the North Central Rams on Tuesday night by a final score of 87-33. #Bri Allen# (
Fr.-West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) came off the bench to score 21 points and bring in eight rebounds to lead the team in both categories. This will be the Cobbers first game of the season.
If the Saints beat the Cobbers on Friday night they will play the winner of the Rockford vs. UW-Stevens Point game on Saturday at 3 p.m. for the Championship. However if they lose they will play the loser of the Rockford vs. UW-Stevens Point game at 1 p.m. for third place.
The Pointers are 1-0 on the season after they beat Viterbo University 66-48. This victory was head coach Shirley Egner's 500th career victory. The Pointers leading scorers are Britta Petersen and Andrea Flease, the two are averaging 14 and 12 points per game. Rockford is 0-1 on the season as they lost to Ambrose University 89-55. Megan Lawler scored 27 points and 15 rebounds to lead the team in both categories.
CSS is 1-3 all-time against UW-Stevens Point. The Saints have never played Rockford before. Both UW-Stevens Point and Concordia-Moorhead were NCAA tournament teams last year.
Game time against Concordia-Moorhead is set for 5 p.m. Friday night. Rockford and UW-Stevens Point tip off at 7 p.m. The consolation game is set for 1 p.m. Saturday with the Championship to follow at 3 p.m. There will be live stats for all games.
