DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica volleyball team pulled into second place in the conference all by themselves this evening with a sweep over Northland College in Reif Gym at the Burns Wellness Commons.
The Saints improve to 15-12 overall and 9-3 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The LumberJills fall to 13-16 overall and 8-4 in the conference. The Saints have swept Northland in 10 of the last 11 matches played at Reif Gym.
The LumberJills jumped out to a 12-8 lead in the opening set. CSS then scored the next five points to take a 13-12 lead. The Saints pulled away late to take the first set 25-19.
The 'Jills also took an 11-8 lead in the second set, but it was the Saints again going on a 7-1 run to regain the lead. The Saints did not trail the rest of the way and won 25-17.
It was the same story in set number three. Northland took an 11-8 lead halfway through the set, but later the Saints used an 8-0 run to take an 18-13 lead. CSS finished off the LumberJills by a score of 25-18. The Saints had a match-high 18 kills and a .255 attack percentage in the final set.

If the Saints win out they will be the No. 2 seed in the UMAC Postseason Tournament and host a semifinal match on Tuesday. The Saints hold a one match edge over the University of Minnesota-Morris and the LumberJills with two matches to play.
