Roy nets the hat trick for the Saints

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team matched a season-high with nine goals, three of which coming from #Hannah Roy# (Fr.-Cloquet, Minn.), in a 9-0 triumph today over Presentation College at Saints Field.

The Saints improve to 13-3-2 overall and 11-0-1 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). With Northland falling today to Minnesota-Morris, a win tomorrow over the Cougars and the Saints will claim their sixth straight regular season UMAC championship. Presentation falls to 2-13-1 overall and 1-11-0 in the conference.

Just 48 seconds into today's contest the Saints got on the board as #Jen Krokum# (Sr.-Duluth, Minn./East) scored her eighth goal of the season. #Melisa Entinger# (Sr.-Mound, Minn./Holy Trinity) added her team-high 10th goal nine minutes into the match to make it 2-0. #Megan Flesvig# (So.-Duluth, Minn./Proctor) and #Ellyn Litecky# (Sr.-Duluth, Minn./East) had the assists.

In the 29th minute, #Cassie Wirth# (So.-Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) added her second goal of the season with an assist from #Katie Gaydos# (Sr.-Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial). Hannah Roy (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) then scored back-to-back goals just 22 seconds apart to extend the lead to 5-0. The NCAA Division III record for the fastest consecutive goals scored by the same player is nine seconds, also held by a CSS player, Jodi Johnson vs. Mount Senario in 1999. #Angie Groh# (Sr.-Andover, Minn./St. Francis) and #Andrea Beatt# (Fr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) assisted the first goal and #Britt Walle# (Fr.-Tafjord, Norway/Duluth East) had the assist on the second goal. The final goal of the first half came from Andrea Beatt (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS), who netted her second of the season, to make it 6-0. #Cortney McKenzie# (Sr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) had the assist.

Six minutes into the second half, Roy added the hat trick with her third goal coming off of a #Nicole Brandt# (Jr.-Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) corner kick. Beatt added her second tally of the day in the 78th minute with assists from #Kaylee Gombold# (Fr.-Stillwater, Minn.) and Krokum. The final goal of the day came from #Amanda Smerz# (So.-Duluth, Minn./East), her first of the season, in the 82nd minute. Krokum once again added the assist and the Saints cruised to a 9-0 victory.

The Saints out-shot Presentation 50-0 in the match. #Erin Olejnicak# (So.-Brainerd, Minn.) and #Molly Bergmann# (So.-Walker, Minn./Walker-Hackensack-Akeley) both saw playing time in net for the Saints. Olejnicak gets the win and improves to 6-1-2 overall. Stephanie Mastel had 23 saves in the loss for Presentation.

The Saints will host the University of Minnesota-Morris tomorrow. The match will begin at noon up at Saints Field and can be seen live, courtesy of the iFan Sports Network, at csssaints.com.
