DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team gave up its first goal in 10 conference matches today, but #Ellyn Litecky#'s (Sr.-Duluth, Minn./East) goal in the 69th minute gave the Saints a 2-1 victory over Northwestern College this afternoon at Saints Field.

The Saints improve to 12-3-2 overall and 10-0-1 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The Eagles fall to 5-7-2 overall and 5-3-2 in the league. The Eagles tied the Saints earlier this season to snap the Saints' 58 match regular season conference winning streak and today snapped CSS's conference shutout streak at 929 minutes and 21 seconds.

CSS added the first goal on the day when after #Melisa Entinger# (Sr.-Mound, Minn./Holy Trinity) had a shot saved, #Angie Groh# (Sr.-Andover, Minn./St. Francis) kicked in the rebound 3:45 seconds into the contest. Later in the half, #Beth Flesvig# (Sr.-Proctor, Minn.) hit the crossbar on a shot, but score remained 1-0. Late in the first half, the Eagles had a free kick just outside of the box and the Eagles' Sam Ellingston received the pass from free kick and scored to tie it at 1-1.

The match continued to be tightly played and physical in the second half. This time the Saints got a free kick just outside of the box. #Cortney McKenzie# (Sr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) fed in the ball and after a scramble Ellyn Litecky (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) put it in the net to give CSS a 2-1 lead. Northwestern did not threaten the rest of the way as the Saints prevailed 2-1. CSS has not lost in 68 straight UMAC regular season matches.

The Saints out-shot the Eagles 16-3, including 8-0 in the second half. #Bailey Mahlum# (So.-Bismarck, Minn.) had two saves to improve to 6-2 this season. Rhonda Morgan had six saves in the loss for the Eagles.

The Saints will be at home again next weekend when it hosts Presentation College on Saturday and the University of Minnesota-Morris on Sunday. Both matches will begin at noon up at Saints Field and can be seen live, courtesy of the iFan Sports Network at csssaints.com.
