MINNEAPOLIS (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team defeated the University of Minnesota Morris 8-1 on Friday in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament semifinals at the Baseline Tennis Center.
Doubles:The Saints had little trouble as the No. 1 team of
Josh Stainer (Portsmouth, England/South Downs College) and
James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) won 8-1. That was also the winning score of the No. 2 team of
Tyler Bates (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) and
Cody Mauston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS). The No. 3 team of
Trace Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) and
Jordan Lindholm (Mt. Iron, Minn./Virginia HS) won 8-2.
Singles:Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) prevailed at the No. 1 spot 6-1, 6-0.
Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) (No. 2) and
Matt Tellander (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) (No. 3) came out on top by the same 6-1 6-1 scores.
Dan Mauro (Thunder Bay, Ontario/St. Ignatius HS) won by scores of 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot. The final winner was
Zach Meikle (La Salle, Manitoba/Linden Christian School) at No. 6 by scores of 6-4, 6-1.
Up Next:The Saints (17-8) will face the University of Northwestern in tomorrow's championship at 1:30 p.m. Northwestern defeated Bethany Lutheran College 6-3 in the other semifinal.
