DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team never led in its 83-62 defeat Friday night to the University of Northwestern in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Game of the Week at the Reif Gymnasium.
 
Midway through the first half, the Eagles used a 17-1 run over the span of six minutes to take a 17-point lead. The margin got as high as 18 before the Saints cut it down to 12 at halftime 38-26.
 
The Eagles (4-9, 2-0 UMAC) shot 50 percent from the floor in the half and out-rebounded the Saints 18-10, including eight offensive rebounds. Northwestern had a 15-4 advantage in points off turnovers.
 
The Northwestern offense kept it rolling in the second half, shooting 61 percent from the floor on its way to an 83-62 victory.
 
The Saints were outscored in the paint 48-30, meaning that 24 of Northwestern's 34 made field goals were in the paint. The Eagles finished at a field goal percentage of 55 percent, while the Saints finished at 42 percent.
 
Joe Stark (Hayward, Wis./Hayward HS) led the Saints with 12 points. Jake Naslund (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) added 11 points off the bench. Guard Julius Johnson (Minneapolis, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) led the team in rebounding with five. Porter Morrell led four Eagles in double-figures with 23 points.
 
The Saints (5-8, 1-1 UMAC) will face North Central University tomorrow at 5 p.m. The game can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
