DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team claimed its third straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championship with a 4-1 victory over the University of Minnesota-Morris at Saints Field on Saturday afternoon.

The opening 45 minutes of the UMAC Championship game between the Saints and the Cougars was a tightly contested half. CSS did well to build their attack through the midfield with accurate passes and great touch.

St. Scholastica had a number of quality chances including two very dangerous free kicks just outside the 18-yard box, but Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College) sent both his efforts just wide. Then in the 30th minute the Saints would find the back of the net with Andrew Xotta-Dickson (Adelaide, South Australia/Prince Alfred College (Anoka Ramsey CC)) beating his marker down the right flank and bending in a low cross that found Shawayne Folkes (Toronto, Ontario/Maxwell Heights) for a diving header goal.

CSS didn't waste any time doubling their lead. Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College) sent a back-heel pass through the box that Kyle Farrar (Sevenoaks, England/Kelsey Park Sports College) slotted home to make it a 2-0 Saints lead.

Minnesota-Morris looked to use the counter-attack to breakdown the Saints defense but were unable to get a shot on goal in the first half.

In the second half St. Scholastica would add two more goals. In the 65th Shawayne Folkes (Toronto, Ontario/Maxwell Heights) got his second goal of the game beating the keeper near post with header off of a CSS corner kick. Andrew Xotta-Dickson (Adelaide, South Australia/Prince Alfred College (Anoka Ramsey CC)) picked up the assist on the goal.

In the 82nd minute Logan Tamke (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) scored to make 4-0 Saints with Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College) contributing his second assist of the day.

The Cougars would get a goal of their own in the 85th minute with Michael Schuweiler converting on a free kick that beat the wall and the keeper.

The game would finish with a score of 4-1 giving St. Scholastica its third straight UMAC Championship in three years. All three victories have come against Minnesota-Morris.

Minnesota-Morris goalkeeper Cody Christ made eight saves in the game.

With the victory the Saints will now move onto the NCAA Division III Tournament. The selection show for the men's tournament will begin on Monday at 12:30 p.m. on NCAA.com
