Box Score RIVER FALLS, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team was unable to hold on to a three-goal lead in the third period and had to settle for a 3-3 tie with the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Saturday night at Hunt Arena.
The Saints got off to a quick start as
Dave Williams (Okotoks, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) put the puck in the net one minute and seven seconds into the contest.
Keegan Bruce (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham HS (Weyburn-SJHL) ) had the assist.
Dylan Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Centennial HS (Brooks-AJHL) ) made it 2-0 with five minutes left in the period. His brother,
Brandon Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Central Memorial HS (Calgary Royals-AJHL)), and
Paul Marcoux (Brandon, Manitoba /Vincent Massey Collegiate (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) were credited with the assists.
Two minutes later, CSS made it 3-0 on a
Garet Chumley (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS (Jersey-EJHL) ) tally.
Matt Malenstyn (Surrey, British Columbia/Tamanawis Secondary (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) and
Eric Kraft (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS (Lake Superior State) ) had the assists. The Saints outshot the Falcons 18-5 in the opening period.
After a scoreless second period, the Falcons (10-6-3, 3-6-3 NCHA) got their first goal of the night three minutes into the third period on an Adam Cardwell power-play goal. Zach Schrotenboer made it 3-2 three minutes later. Blake Hubbert then tied the contest 3-3 with three minutes left in regulation.
CSS outshot the Falcons 3-2 in the overtime session, but the game ended in a 3-3 tie. This is the first tie of the season for the Saints.
The Saints outshot River Falls 34-24 for the game.
Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) made 21 saves for the Saints and Scott Lewan had 31 saves for the Falcons.
The Saints (6-11-1, 3-8-1 NCHA) will be at home on Thursday and Friday of next week beginning with Bridge Rival University of Wisconsin-Superior at Mars Lakeview Arena. The puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday night. All of the action can be seen live on Saints Sports Net.
