MINNEAPOLIS – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team won its fourth straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Postseason Tournament on Saturday, winning eight of the nine flights and accumulating 26 points at the Baseline Tennis Center.
On Friday night, the Saints took all three flights in the doubles competition. The No. 1 team of #Dillon Sterle# (
Sr.-Hibbing, Minn.) and #Brendan Anderson# (
Jr.-Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) won its semifinal match against Minnesota-Morris 8-4. The team then defeated Northwestern in the championship 9-7. It is the second doubles title for both Sterle and Anderson, but the first as a team.
The No. 2 team of #Jacob Engelstad# (
So.-Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) and #Tucker Combs#
(Jr.-White Bear Lake, Minn.) cruised at the No. 2 flight, winning its semifinal match over Minnesota-Morris 8-2 and then defeating Northwestern for the championship 8-3. This was the second straight No. 2 flight doubles title for Engelstad.

Jr.-Rhinelander, Wis.) and #Brian Lindberg# (
So.-Hermantown, Minn.) shut out Minnesota-Morris in the semifinals 8-0 and then defeated Northwestern for the title 8-3. This was the second straight No. 3 flight doubles title for Dean.
In singles action on Saturday, the Saints won five of the six flights. At the No. 1 flight,
Dillon Sterle (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) had a dogfight as he rallied back to win his semifinal match in the super-tiebreaker 5-7, 7-5 (11-9). He then won the championship match 6-1, 7-6 (7-3). Sterle has four conference singles titles, including three at the No. 1 flight. His 29 wins at the No. 1 spot are the most in program history. His 46 wins overall are third-most in program history.
At the No. 2 flight,
Jacob Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) was also pushed to a super-breaker in the semifinals, winning 6-7 (3-7), 7-5, (10-4). He won his championship match 6-2, 6-2. The championship victory for Engelstad gives him 18 wins on the year, a new program record. #Kevin Hilpert# (
So.-Stillwater, Minn.) cruised at the No. 4 flight, shutting out his semifinal opponent 6-0, 6-0 and then taking the championship match 6-1, 6-3. For Engelstad and Hilpert, this is their second consecutive singles championships.
Tim Dean (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander HS) won at the No. 5 flight with a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the semifinals and a 7-5, 6-1 triumph in the championship, his second in as many years. At the No. 6 flight, #Joe Vidmar# (
Jr.-Chisholm, Minn./Hibbing) took the crown, blanking his semifinal opponent 6-0, 6-0 and taking the title match 6-2, 6-2.
The Saints have won 11 of the 14 UMAC Tournaments since its inception. CSS's season will more than likely end and the Saints will have to say goodbye to seniors
