Rob McDonald was named the head coach of The College of St. Scholastica women's basketball program in June 2026.
McDonald arrives at St. Scholastica with coaching experience spanning the NCAA Division II and NJCAA levels, bringing a strong background in recruiting, player development, scouting and program building.
Prior to joining the Saints, McDonald spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan, where he worked under head coach Jenny Pruett. During his tenure, he helped develop student-athletes in one of the nation's most competitive NCAA Division II conferences while contributing to recruiting, scouting and game preparation.
Before Saginaw Valley State, McDonald served as an assistant coach at Saint Leo University in Florida. There, he specialized in team and opponent scouting and player development while helping guide the Lions to 12 Sunshine State Conference victories, the program's highest conference win total since joining the league. Saint Leo finished 17-12 overall and advanced to the Sunshine State Conference Tournament during his time with the program.
McDonald also spent time as the lead assistant coach at Lincoln University of Missouri, where he played a key role in improving the program's success on the court while contributing to increased attendance, fundraising efforts and team academic performance.
His collegiate coaching career began at Eastern Florida State College, where he helped the Titans earn a national Top-25 ranking at the NJCAA level.
A former student-athlete, McDonald competed in both basketball and football at St. Olaf College. He earned a bachelor's degree in studio arts while competing at the NCAA Division III level.
McDonald and his wife have three children. Known throughout his coaching career as "Coach Rob," he is passionate about developing student-athletes both on and off the court and building championship-caliber programs grounded in strong relationships, accountability and personal growth.
