Dan Szymczak enters into his fourth year as the head coach for the Men's & Women's Golf programs.
Under his toolage, the Saints have produced the most successful golfers in program history in recent years, with Carissa Oberding and Connor O'Hara breaking the single season scoring average records for the women's and men's teams respectively.
Szymczak, a 1998 St. Scholastica graduate, has worked professionally in the golf industry since 2016. Szymczak has an area of expertise in golf swing mechanics and instruction, teaching professionally since 2018.
Szymczak earned a degree in English from St. Scholastica in 1998 and then went on to earn a Masters Degree in Counseling Studies from Capella University in 2014.
After starting golf later in life, Szymczak dropped 20 strokes from his game in just three years, igniting his passion for coaching.
In his first year, he led the women’s team to its best performance ever, followed by another strong season despite losing two top players. He’s coached the top two women in program history, helping them reach their peak performance. On the men’s side, his teams ranked fifth and second in program history over the past two years, with goals to reach the top by 2025.
Outside of coaching, Dan enjoys teaching golf in the summer and is a music lover who plays several instruments and sings. His favorite quote, "Behold the turtle. He makes progress only when he sticks his neck out," reflects his belief in taking risks and embracing growth. Dan is committed to helping his student-athletes thrive in sports and in life.
