Saints Sports Awards 2013: Male Athlete of the Year Nominees

Jeremy Hecker - Men's Nordic Skiing
  • Qualified for the NCAA Skiing Championships. (One of eight NCAA Division III skiers to make the field).
  • Finished a program-best 11th in the Freestyle Race at the NCAA Skiing Championships. (One spot shy of All-American accolades)
  • Became the first CSS men’s skier to earn first team All-Conference honors. (He was the only individual from a Division III program (non-scholarship) on the either the first or second team).
  • Earned All-Region honors in the Classic technique.
  • Finished in top five in nine races and was in the top three in six of those, including four straight runner-ups.
Jacob Engelstad - Men's Tennis
  • Was at the top of a lineup, as the team set a program record with 18 dual match wins and UMAC Regular Season and Tournament titles.
  • UMAC Player of the Year (First CSS Male Tennis player to win the award since 2009)
  • Record of 15-10, including 9-1 in conference play.
Kyle Flagstad - Baseball
  • Led the Saints to the NCAA Division III Tournament and UMAC Regular Season and Tournament Titles.
  • Honorable Mention All-American by D3baseball.com
  • First Team All-Midwest Region by ABCA and D3baseball.com
  • UMAC Player of the Year
  • Led the Team in batting average (.424), slugging percentage (.698), runs scored (38), triples (8), total bases (96), stolen bases (12-for-12) and multi-RBI games (15).
  • Reached base in a team-high 30 straight games at one point.
  • Had a perfect fielding percentage in 61 chances.
Alec French - Football
  • Led the Saints to a share of the regular season conference championship and a NCAA Division III Playoff appearance.
  • First Team All-UMAC Defensive Back
  • Named team’s MVP.
  • Spearheaded a group that led the conference and finished in the top 30 in Division III in total defense.
  • Led the team in tackles (90) and led the UMAC with 51 solo tackles.
  • First Team Capital One Academic All-American.
Andrew Jenkins - Men's Soccer
  • Led the Saints to the NCAA Division III Tournament and UMAC Regular Season and Tournament titles.
  • UMAC Offensive Player of the Year
  • Recorded the most goals (25) and points (59) in a season in program history.
  • Tied for the most points in all NCAA Divisions (I, II & III) and was second in Division III in goals.
Tom Lyscio - Men's Track & Field
  • Became the first Men’s Track & Field athlete to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships and only the second-ever to qualify for a National Meet.
  • Helped the Saints sweep both the Indoor and Outdoor UMAC Championships.
  • All-Conference selection in outdoor competition.
  • Named to the USFTCCCA All-Academic Team.
  • Set program record in the hammer throw (56.35m).
