DULUTH, Minn. – The College of St. Scholastica women's soccer team made the most of its first home appearance of the season Thursday, rolling to a 5-0 victory over North Central University at Kenny Harkins Field.
The Saints (1-1-0) wasted little time getting on the board, as Anna Manion (Superior, WI/Superior HS) scored just 2:45 into the match off an assist from Lauren Hughes (Cloquet, MN/Cloquet High School). St. Scholastica kept the pressure on throughout the opening half, with Bailey Coole (Duluth, MN/Duluth East HS) doubling the lead in the 15th minute before Julia Lewis (Maple Grove, MN/Maple Grove HS) made it 3-0 just under two minutes later off an assist from Manion.
CSS controlled the run of play throughout the first 45 minutes, outshooting North Central 14-1 and taking a 3-0 advantage into halftime.
The Saints added two more goals in quick succession midway through the second half. Gianna Hansen (Proctor, MN/Proctor High School) converted a penalty kick in the 60th minute to extend the lead to 4-0 before Manion struck again just 33 seconds later, finishing a feed from Lewis for her second goal of the night and the final 5-0 margin.
Manion led the St. Scholastica attack with two goals and an assist while finishing with a team-high six shots, including four on goal. Lewis added a goal and an assist, while Coole and Hansen each found the back of the net.
The Saints dominated the statistical totals, finishing with a 24-3 advantage in shots, including an 11-2 edge in shots on goal, while also holding a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Rylee Senich (Cloquet, MN/Cloquet HS) made two saves over 90 minutes to record the shutout.
