Ishpeming, MI - The Saints Nordic Ski teams competed on day one of the NCAA Central Regional Championships, which began on Saturday, February 22. The event that took place for the first day was the 7.5 km Classic Interval Start, which resulted in a podium finish for one of the athletes.
Male Top PerformersÂ
Chase High (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs HS) led the Saints with another podium finish in the high stakes Regional Championships, finishing in 3rd place with an impressive time of 21:35.0. Jakob Craig (Tomahawk, WI/Lakeland Union High School) followed soon after, taking 10th place and finishing with a time of 22:02.1. Three CSS athletes finished consecutively after: Ben Boelter (Sartell, Minn./Sartell HS) in 12th with a time of 22:10.0, who was closely followed up by Sumner Cotton (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs HS) in 13th with a time of 22:10.8, and the last of the trio being Alexander Bertonneau (Frisco, Colo./Summit HS) in 14th finishing with his time of 22:13.3. Ivar Dragerengen (Raufoss, Norway/Lena-Valle Viderega°ende Skole) was not far behind in 16th with a time of 22:22.4, and Cameron Cruickshank () in 17th with his time of 22:24.3.
Other finishers for the male athletes include Kai Donnelly () finishing with a time of 22:53.1, Joseph Walling (Palmer, Alaska/Mat-Su Career & Technical HS) crossed with a time of 22:57.6, and to wrap up the day for the men was Jonny Saldin (Stillwater, Minn./Homeschool), who finished with a time of 23:23.9.
Female Top Performers
Charlotte (Mae) Whitcomb (Holderness, N.H./Holderness School) led the women, finishing in 7th place with her time of 25:07.1. Right behind her was Greta Leitheiser (Bend, Ore./Sun Valley Community School), who finished in 8th with a time of 25:08.8. Kelsey Johannes (Anchorage, Alaska/West Anchorage HS) was not far behind as she finished with a time of 25:56.7 in 12th place, while Emily Erickson (Anchorage, Alaska/A.J. Dimond HS) finished in 14th with a time of 26:23.9. Avery Tolbert (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago HS) crossed the finish line at 27:06.2, finishing her day in 19th, and Maddie Gray () would wrap it up for the Saints on day one, finishing in 21st with a time of 27:49.1.
