Duluth, Minn. – The Saint Scholastica volleyball team hosted a non-conference opponent, the Bluedevils of the University of Wisconsin-Stout today, Tuesday, October 7 in a thrilling shut-out victory for the Saints.
How it Happened
First Set
The opening set was a battle, as both teams traded points deep into extra play. The Saints relied on steady play from setter Natalie Yackley (New Ulm, MN/New Ulm HS), who distributed the ball beautifully, totaling 37 assists on the night. Outside hitter Lindsey Baribeau (Biwabik, MN/Mesabi East HS) led the offensive charge early, powering through with several key kills that helped the Saints edge out a 28–26 victory to take control of the match.
Second Set
Momentum stayed with the Saints in the second set. Abby Zins (Chisago Lakes, MN/Chisago Lakes High School) provided a spark at the net with strong attacking and blocking, converting efficiently with nine kills on the night while hitting an impressive .286. Baribeau continued to dominate, recording multiple kills to extend the Saints' lead, while Cassidy Lustig (Ashland, WI/Ashland HS) and Ava Swangstue (Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) added timely points to keep St. Scholastica in front. The Saints' defense also stepped up, with Lauren Kahl (Ridgeland, WI/Prairie Farm HS) and Lustig anchoring the back row, combining for over two dozen digs as the team held on for a 25–21 second-set win.
Third Set
In the third and final frame, St. Scholastica showed composure and teamwork when it mattered most. Ava Decker (Rochester, MN/Century HS) provided gritty defensive play, while Baribeau sealed the deal with several emphatic swings to finish with a match-high 18 kills and a remarkable .429 hitting percentage. Zins added strength at the net, and Yackley capped her stellar night by keeping the offense unpredictable and efficient. The Saints closed out the match 25–22 to secure the sweep and send their home crowd into celebration.

The Saints (11-7, 3-1 MIAC) will remain home to host the Bennies (11-4, 2-1 MIAC) in another MIAC Conference double header on Friday, October 10 at 7 P.M.
