Football to Play in First Road Game of the Season

St. Bonifacius, MN. – The St. Scholastica Football team will take to the road for the first time this season on Saturday, September 21, against the Crown College Polars. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The team is coming off an overtime loss against Rockford University, and the Saints face another evenly matched opponent, as Crown is coming off a 1-8 season, and the Saints finished 2-8. Both teams are looking to achieve their first win in the season.

Saints to Watch

Offense:

In the Saints' last outing, Junior Donald West (St. Paul, Minn./Woodbury HS (Iowa Central)) recorded 19 complete passes for a gain of 196 yards. He would connect once for the Saints' single passing touchdown. 

Senior Nick Schleder led the Saints in rushing yards and attempts. Schlender received the ball 15 times for a total of 82 rushing yards gained. 

Junior Andrew Burgess II (Tampa, Fla./Cypress Creek HS)I led the Saints in both receiving yards and total receptions, recording eight receptions for a gain of 72 yards. 

Defense:

Leading the defense for the Saints was Austin Mundt (Deer River, Minn./Deer River HS), who recorded nine solo tackles and three assisted tackles for a total of 12 tackles. Mundt also assisted on a sack costing the Regents one yard. 

Senior Anthony Vo (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville HS) had nearly identical defensive stats to Mundt, recording nine solo tackles and two assists. Vo led the team in sacks recording one-and-a-half sacks setting the regents back 23 yards. 

A Look at the Polars

The Saints and Polars are common opponents, their last meeting was in the 2023 season, where the Saints beat the Polars 38-18. The two schools have played a total of 14 games against one another, with the Saints winning 13 out of their 14 matches, the Polars only win was their first meeting in 2008.
