Softball Ends Season at Bethel

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Saint Scholastica Softball team traveled to Arden Hills to play the Royals of Bethel University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) doubleheader, today, Wednesday, May 1st.

Game One, CSS 0, BU 8
The game would end after only five innings after the Royals scored one run in the first inning, followed by three in the second. The Saints' defense would hold strong in the third, and not let a single Bethel runner home. That defensive strength would not last long, however, as the Royals would score two more in the fourth, and fifth innings, closing this one early as the Royals threw a no-hitter.

Game Two, CSS 2, BU 6
The Saints would first score early in the game, at the top of the first. They would begin the inning taking one out, followed by Kari Breuer (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) singling to center field. Breuer would then make a move for the Saints and steal second. Grace Hadlich (Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) would single down the right side, bringing Breuer home, and giving Hadlich an RBI, and putting the Saints on the board with one run. The Saints would then suffer two nonconsecutive outs, bringing this innings offense to an end. The first inning would end with the Royals mounting a comeback, tying the game at 1-1.

The second inning was very similar to the first. The Saints would get going with Payton Lang (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) up to bat, taking a pitch to the body, getting first for free. Following that the Saints would suffer two consecutive outs. Emma Bolin (Litchfield Park, Ariz./Millennium HS) would hit a double to left field, bringing Lang home, and scoring an RBI. Breuer would also get hit by a pitch, after that the Royals would make a pitching change, and immediately give the Saints their third out. Once again the Royals would tie the game up during the bottom of the inning, the score at this point was 2-2.

The Saints would calm down a bit in the third, suffering three consecutive outs, no runners on base here. The Royals would not stop their offense though, with one run coming in during their turn on offense at the bottom of the inning. The score at the end of the inning would be 2-3.

The remainder of the game would be much the same, with the Saints not getting on base at all for the remainder of the game, and the Royals would score three more runs in the sixth. The game would end with a final score of 2-6.

End of Season
The Saints would finish the season with a record of 8-28, and a record of 5-17 in MIAC play. The Saints will say goodbye to seniors Kari Breuer (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS), Grace Hadlich (Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi HS), Haley Rosenthal (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS), Aislind Dail (Sumner, Wash./Sumner HS), and Danielle Erickson (International Falls, Minn./Littlefork-Big Falls HS)
