WINONA, Minn. – The Saint Scholastica Softball team traveled to Winona today to play the Cardinals of Saint Mary's University, in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) doubleheader.
Game One, CSS 2, SMU 10
The Saints began the game by scoring the first run, trailblazer by Kari Breuer (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) stealing second base, leading to Emma Bolin (Litchfield Park, Ariz./Millennium HS) taking the early lead in game one. The following run was also scored by the Saints, this time, Aislind Dail (Sumner, Wash./Sumner HS) hit a single to the left, giving Breuer the perfect opportunity to run it in for the second time for the Saints.
St. Scholastica would lead 2-0 early, but the Cardinals would score four runs in the bottom on the first to have a two-run advantage. St. Marys would add three more runs at their next time at the plate, making the score 7-2.
In the third, Bolin singled off a bunt, and Breuer was hit by a pitch. Then the bases became loaded after Grace Hadlich (Stillwater, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) was walked, unfortunately the Cardinals would survive the inning with a double play and then added another out.
In the top of the fourth, Payton Lang (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) recorded a double, but the Saints came out empty-handed. The fourth inning would see the Cardinals get another two runs, and finish the game in five innings after the Saints couldn't get anything going in the top of the fifth as they fell 10-2.
Game Two, CSS 3, SMU 11
