Saints Set to Take on the #3 Saint John’s

Duluth, MN. - The St. Scholastica Football team will host the #3 Johnnies from Saint John's University for the second-last home game at Walt Hunting Stadium-Marv Heikkinen Field at 1 p.m. on Saturday. 

The Saints are coming off a loss suffered last weekend at home against the Knights from Carleton College by a score of 35-14.

Saints to Watch

Offense: 

  • Donald West (St. Paul, Minn./Woodbury HS (Iowa Central)) led the Saints' passing attack with 20 completed passes last week for 141 yards while also recording a touchdown pass. 

  • Nick Schlender (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) recorded 64 rushing yards on 13 rushing attempts to lead the Saints on the ground last week. 

  • Andrew Burgess led the way for the Saints in receiving with five receptions to go along with 47 receiving yards while also adding a receiving touchdown. 

 

Defense:

  • Austin Mundt (Deer River, Minn./Deer River HS) led the Saints in tackles this past weekend, recording nine solo tackles with two assisted tackles to total 11 total tackles. 

  • John Bonner (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids HS) ranked second for the Saints defensively last weekend, as the senior added six solo tackles, while adding two assisted tackles for a combined total of eight tackles. 

  • Antonio Bugni (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount HS) recorded an interception in his second consecutive game, as the senior safety also added five solo tackles and one combined tackle to total six tackles last weekend against the Knights. 

 

A Look at the Johnnies

Saint John's enters this weekend with a perfect record of 7-0, having gone 5-0 in conference play. The Johnnies currently have the top-ranked passing offense in the nation and the second-ranked rushing offense in the MIAC. Saturday will be the seventh meeting all-time between these programs, with Saint John's having gone 6-0 in those contests.
