Women’s Soccer Falls in Road Matchup Against Augsburg

Minneapolis, MN. - The St. Scholastica Women's Soccer team fell tonight in its final road contest of the season against the Auggies from Augsburg. The Auggies scored twice in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into the halftime break, and scored once more in the second, as the Saints fell by a score of 3-0.

How it Happened

The Saints opened the first half with urgency, as Julia Lewis (Maple Grove, MN) tried to get a shot on goal but just nearly missed the goal, while the Saints defense blocked the two opening shots that came off the foot of the Auggies.

Gracie Meagher (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) made her first save of the game in the 15th minute, as the game remained scoreless.

After both teams traded possession for the next 10 minutes, the Auggies scored the first goal of the game on a penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute.

Peyton Mathiasen (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS) tried to even the game up with a shot on goal in the 30th minute but was denied with a key save that kept the Saints scoreless.

Minutes later after the Saints committed another foul that led to a penalty kick, the Auggies took advantage of the situation and netted their second goal of the opening half, taking a 2-0 lead over the Saints in the 31st minute.

Meagher would make a trio of saves in the 35th through 38th minutes, as the Saints went into the halftime break trailing 2-0.

Second Half

The Saints' first shot of the second half came from Abigail Shrode (Hamilton, Mich./Hamilton HS), as she nearly missed the net to try to put the Saints on the board in the 50th minute.

After Meagher made another save in the 53rd minute for the Saints, Julia Lewis (Maple Grove, MN) came close to getting the Saints on the board, but a defensive stop from the Auggies killed the Saints' momentum with the game still sitting at 2-0.

As the game approached the middle of the second half, Kaitlyn Sautter (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS) took a try to give the Saints a goal, but her shot fell wide of the net in the 59th minute with the Saints still trailing.

Mariah Hernesman (Duluth, MN) nearly got the Saints their first goal of the game in the 75th minute, as her shot was just off target, and the Saints still remained scoreless.

The Auggies would add to their total in the 76th minute, scoring a goal to extend their lead to 3-0 over CSS.

Mathiasen and Lewis would both take their chance to give the Saints a goal in the late minutes of the second half, but both shots couldn't find the back of the net, as the Auggies came away with a 3-0 victory over the Saints.
