DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica college women's tennis team came away with a 7-2 dual match viceroy over their Minnesota Intercollegiate opponent Hamline on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Saints would end their season strongly, taking five of the singles matches and two of the doubles matches. The team will be kept out of the playoffs but end with an overall record of 7-12 and improve to 4-6 the MIAC with this victory.
Doubles
To kick off the match St. Scholastica would keep things efficient on court No. 1 with Anna Ritchie (Becker, Minn./Becker HS) and Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium) flying to an 8-0 victory. On court No. 2 Maya Nibbe (Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) and Mishell Benitez (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Tecnico Particular a Distancia José Martí) would hold their Piper opponents to just three games, posting the 8-3 victory. At No. 3 doubles Cursta Dimberio (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and Ava Fink (Virginia, Minn./Rock Ridge HS) were narrowly defeated 6-8.
Singles
The Saints would contain the Pipers in singles play, with Maier thrashing her opponent 6-1,6-0 on court No. 1. Benitez also got through in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2 on court No. 2. The Bartels sisters won back-to-back singles matches on courts No. 4 and No. 5, Katia 6-2, 6-0 and Elena 6-2, 6-3. Western Iron Range native Eva Kangas (Grand Rapids, Minn./Minnesota Virtual Academy – Grand Rapids HS) would wrap up the dual match by claiming a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the six-hole for the Saints.

The Saints women's tennis team and their 2022-23 season will now come to a close as they did not qualify for the five-team MIAC playoffs next week. In their second year of MIAC play the ladies finish strong, winning their last two matches as a team. The CSS women's team loses no seniors and will return at full strength next season.
