DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team opened its season this evening, hosting the Polars from Crown College at Reif Gymnasium. The Saints took a 14-point lead into halftime, and were able to pull away in the late moments of the second half, defeating the Polars by a score of 71-54.

How it Happened
After the Polars scored the opening points in this one, CSS got some help with a layup by Gabby Voigt (St. Michael. Minn./St. Michael- Albertville HS) for her first career points, and a jumper from Megan Hurley (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS).

The Polars were able to match the Saints offensively, which was then followed by a layup from Kloey Lind (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) and Jackie Johnson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) notched her first three-pointer of the season.

To end the quarter, the Saints went on a 8-0 run, highlighted by a Hurley jumper, and a pair of jumpers from Lexi Imdieke (Andover, Minn./Andover HS), one of them a three-pointer, to take a 18-9 lead into the second quarter.

The Saints offense picked up right where it left off to open the second quarter, as Voigt and Lind both scored to extend the lead to 21-9.

Following a Johnson layup, Hannah Compton (Anoka, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS) made her presence felt, getting a layup and a three-pointer, to extend CSS lead to 28-12.

Closing out the first half, Lind and Compton both scored to make the score 32-19, and Imdieke put the final icing on the cake with a late three-pointer to send the Saints into halftime with a 35-21 lead.

Hurley and Voight got the Saints offense flowing to open up the second half with a pair of buckets. The scoring offense got even better when Katie Vaske (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS (Hamline University)) hit a three-pointer to put the Saints up 44-26.

Later in the quarter, the Saints got a big play from Jada Bierschbach (Richmond, Minn./Rocori HS) converted a key and-one to put the Saints up 14, and that lead would only grow when Johnson scored the last points of the quarter on a three-pointer.

Imdieke put the Saints up 20 with a three-pointer and a fastbreak layup. Imdieke added one more three pointer late in the quarter, giving her 20 points on the night.

A late boost from CSS came when Nia Hacker (Farmington, Minn/Eastview HS) hit a three-pointer, the final points for CSS, as they were able to come away with a 71-54 win in its season opener

Off to Bemidji
The Saints (1-0, 0-0) will be in action next on Saturday, where they will take on the Division-II Beavers from Bemidji State. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m
