The Johnnies took a 35-point lead into the second quarter, and after the Saints recorded a touchdown, St. John's scored 27 unanswered points, defeating CSS by a score of 62-7.
How it Happened
The first quarter was headlined by a dominating Johnnies effort, scoring on all five of its drives, jumping out to a 35-0 lead after one quarter.
The Saints first drive of the second quarter showed promise, as Nick Schlender (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) rushed for 24 yards, and Donald West (St. Paul, Minn./Woodbury HS (Iowa Central)) connected with Wyatt Lahr (Bowlus, Minn./Royalton HS) for 16 yards. Despite the effort, the Saints were forced to punt.
St. John's scored on its next two drives, extending its lead to 49-0.
On the ensuing drive, West connected with Lahr for 29 yards between two receptions and found Dayne Evanson (South Range, Wis./Northwestern HS) for a gain of 18 yards. After Kione Roberson (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Cypress Creek) gained five yards on a reception from West, Ricky Weber (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS) was able to find the endzone on a touchdown pass from West, as the score now sat at 49-7.
CSS' defense stepped up in the closing moments of the quarter, as Anthony Vo (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville HS) was able to stop the Johnnies in its tracks with an interception.
St. John's controlled the third quarter, finding the endzone on its first drive and adding three points on a field goal on its last drive of the quarter, all while forcing CSS to punt on its drives.
The Johnnies were able to score on its opening drive of the fourth quarter, and then proceeded to milk the clock, as St. John's defeated CSS by a score of 62-7 in this contest.
