DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team trailed twice, but battled to a 2-2 tie with the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Sunday at Saints Field.
 
How It Happened
The Blugolds (1-0-2) struck first in the 18th minute to take a 1-0 lead. That would be the halftime score as the Saints had one shot on goal in the first 45 minutes of play.
 
The action picked up in second half as Morgan Friday (Duluth, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's HS) was taken down in the penalty area, which resulted in a PK. Friday stepped up and found the net to tie the game at 1-1 in the in the 47th minute.
 
Eau Claire responded in the 57th minute to regain the lead at 2-1. However, that lead was short-lived as two minutes later Friday added her second of the game to make it 2-2. McKenzie Nelson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) had the assist.
 
Both teams had scoring chances later in the second half, but the contest went to overtime. In the first overtime, the Blugolds controlled much of the action and put two shots on goal, both of which were stopped by Taelynn Gittins (Hugo, Minn./Mahtomedi HS).
 
In the second overtime, Friday almost put in her third of the game, but it just went left of the goal and the contest ended in a 2-2 stalemate.
