Women’s Soccer Upends Saint Mary’s to Stay Alive

-Ickert scores first goal of the season
-Quam scores first goal of the season

WINONA, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team got a pair of first half goals and that held up as they handed Saint Mary's University its first home loss of the season by a 2-1 final Friday evening in the regular season finale.

How It Happened
The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute when Alexa Ickert (Minnetrista, Minn./Waconia HS) recorded her first goal of the season. CSS extended its lead to 2-0 with a Kaiya Quam (Oakdale, Minn./Mounds View HS) goal in the 36th minute. That was the score at the half.

The Cardinals (13-4-1, 7-3-1 MIAC) cut the margin to 2-1 in the 61st minute. However, the Saints held Saint Mary's to only one shot on goal the rest of the way to come home 2-1 winners.

Goalkeeping
(CSS) Taelynn Gittins (Hugo, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) – 6 saves
(SMU) Alexis Nguyen – 3 saves

Playoff Hopes Determined Tomorrow
The Saints (4-10-4, 4-5-2 MIAC) will now have to wait and see if they can get the sixth-and-final MIAC postseason spot. CSS needs losses from Carleton College, Macalester College and St. Olaf College. Those three teams play three of the four teams in the conference. Stay tuned.
