DUBUQUE, Iowa (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team got a goal from Kaiya Quam (Oakdale, Minn./Mounds View HS), but it wasn't enough in a 2-1 loss to the University of Dubuque on Sunday.

How it Happened
The Spartans (4-0) struck first in the 24th minute on a Brooke Bodzinski unassisted goal. The Saints would get a couple of corner kicks following the goal, but would not get a shot off. CSS was out-shot 8-2 in the opening 45 minutes of action.

Dubuque added to its lead less than three minutes into the second half on a Natalie Dienstbach goal. Then first-year player Sami Szendrey (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors HS), who had the Saints' only two shots in the first half, recorded CSS' first shot of goal of the game shortly after the Dubuque tally. After that shot was denied, the Saints broke through four minutes later on a Quam goal, assisted by Szendrey, to make it 2-1 in the 53rd minute.

Both teams would have chances over the next 10 minutes, but came away with nothing. CSS would not get a shot off in the final 25 minutes of play as the Spartans prevailed 2-1. Shots on goal were 7-5 in the second half.

Goalkeeping
Alexa Gothard (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Lake Superior College)) had nine saves for the Saints, while Victoria Roethler had four saves for Dubuque.
