TUCSON, Ariz. (csssaints.com)- The College of St. Scholastica softball team dropped two games on its third day of competition at the Tucson Invitational Games as it fell to George Fox, 7-1, to open the day and to Trinity (TX), 12-2, in five innings Thursday afternoon.
Game One: CSS 1, George Fox 7
Senior
Maggie Schley (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) went 2-for-3 from the plate with the Saints' lone RBI as CSS fell to George Fox in the opening game of the day.
Hannah Thul (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) and
Lily Kagan (Anchorage, Alaska/Robert Service HS) also tallied hits in the contest, with Thul scoring the Saints' only run in the top of the sixth inning.
The Bruins plated runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings, and CSS was not able to overcome the early deficit.
Schley was tagged with the loss in the circle, allowing six runs on nine hits with six strikeouts in four innings of work.
Olivia Howe (Scandia, Minn./Forest Lake HS) tossed two innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts.
Game Two: Trinity 12, CSS 2 (5)
The Saints fell down early and were never able to recover as they dropped the second game of the day to Trinity, 12-2, in five innings.
Trailing 9-0, CSS plated two runs in the fourth inning to work its way back into the game.
Josie Fourre (Albany, Minn./Albany HS) led off the frame with a walk and pinch runner
Sydney Plemel (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) scored on a double to centerfield from
Toni Bishop (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS). Pinch runner Cami Hale tagged on a fly ball to right field, before an error allowed her to score from third base.
The Saints threatened again in the bottom of the fifth inning after
Ashley Pollema (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) hit a two-out double to centerfield, advanced to third on a wild pitch and Howe walked to put runners at first and third. But Trinity was able to get out of the jam with a strikeout to end the game.
Schley earned the loss in the circle, allowing five earned runs on four hits with two strikeouts in two innings pitched. Howe tossed the final three innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits with one strikeout.
