Women’s Hockey Faces UWS Tuesday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team will play its final non-conference game of the season Tuesday when it heads across the bridge to face the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints enter Tuesday on a season-high five-game winning streak.
-The longest winning streak in program history is six games done twice.
-With another victory, CSS can match its program record for wins in a season set just last season.
-Senior Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) became the third player in program history to reach at least 40 goals and 30 assists in a career over the weekend.
-Klaas has 10 points in the last five games.
-Also happening over the weekend, junior goaltender Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) matched the program record for career wins (28) and also recorded her program-best 10th career shutout.
-That was her fourth shutout of the season, tying the single-season program record.
-Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) now has the second-most assists in a season (26) in program history is four shy of Michelle Fischer's program record of 30.
-Anderson ranks second in NCAA Division III in assists and fifth in the country with 1.59 points per game.
-The Saints rank seventh in the nation with a power-play rate of 24.7 percent.
-CSS is 12-1 this season when scoring the first goal.
-The Saints are out-scoring teams by 30 goals in the second and third periods combined.
 
What You Need to Know about UW-Superior:
Record: 7-15-1, 0-7-1 WIAC
-The Yellowjackets will enter Tuesday's game having lost five straight.
-However, all five of those losses have against teams ranked in the top 11 of the Pairwise.
-Six of their seven wins this season have come against NCHA teams, including four against Finlandia University (Mich.).
-Tuesday will be the home finale for the 'jackets where they have won four games.
-Junior Kaleigh Martinson leads the team with 13 goals and 22 points.
-Fellow junior Molly Shelton has a team-best 10 assists.
-Junior goaltender Catherine Johnson has a 2.89 goals-against-average and .902 save percentage.
-The Yellowjackets are 0-6 in one-goal games.
 
Series Record: UWS leads 9-6-1 (Last Meeting: 5-2 CSS – 12/11/2018)
 
Series History: The Saints won the first meeting of the season at Mars Lakeview back in December … That marked the first time, CSS won the first meeting when the teams met twice in a season … That means the Saints are looking for their first-ever season sweep of UWS.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints will finish the regular season with a key NCHA series against Lake Forest College (Ill.) this weekend. The series begins Friday at Mars Lakeview Arena.
