Women’s Hockey to Finish 2019 with Bridge Battle

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team will have its final game of the 2019 calendar year when it welcomes Bridge Rival University of Wisconsin-Superior to Mars Lakeview Arena on Tuesday.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-CSS is coming off a conference sweep of St. Norbert College (Wis.) over the weekend, where it out-scored the Green Knights 6-1.
-Senior defenseman Greta Nundahl (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) scored a power-play goal in both wins for her first goals of the season.
-Junior Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) scored a pair of goals on Saturday and leads the team with six goals on the year.
-Senior goaltender Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) recorded her first shutout of the season on Saturday.
-Senior defenseman Sam Gorecki (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic (Chicago Fury)) has a point in four straight games and is tied for second among NCHA defenseman with six points.
-Junior Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) needs one more point to become the seventh player in program history to post 70 points in a career.
-CSS has scored a power-play goal in five of the last six games and has not allowed a power-play goal in the last four games and the last 12 opportunities overall.
 
What You Need to Know about UW-Superior:
Record: 4-1-1, 2-1-0 WIAC
-The Yellowjackets have not played since November 23.
-UWS is coming off a pair of conference wins over Northland College and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
-The lone defeat thus far was in overtime against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
-The Yellowjackets have played five of their first six games on home ice.
-Senior Kaleigh Martinson leads the team with eight goals and nine points.
-Junior Amanda Sergent has a team-best five assists.
-Senior Catherine Johnson has seen all of the action in goal with a 1.80 goals-against-average and a .927 save percentage.
-UWS is out-scoring teams 11-3 in the first period.
-The Yellowjackets are third in NCAA Division III in scoring offense, averaging 4.67 goals per game.
-UWS is also third in the country in penalty minutes per game (13.8).
-Superior is 4-0 when it scores the first goal.

Series History: The Saints have won three straight over the Yellowjackets, their longest win streak of the series and matches UWS' win streak at the beginning of the series for the longest win streak by either team … CSS is just 2-6 against UWS at Mars Lakeview Arena, but have won the last two.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints return to the ice one month from Tuesday when they host the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in a non-conference series on January 10.
