DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) -- The College of St. Scholastica softball team defeated Bethany Lutheran College in a doubleheader at Kenwood Field on Saturday. The Saints won the first game on a walk-off by a score of 2-1 and the second 8-1.
Game 1: CSS 2, BLC 1
The first game proved to be a pitcher's dual. After a scoreless first three innings, the Saints got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when
Cindi Rydlund (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) scored off a fielding error by the Vikings. In the top of the fifth, Anna Pipenhagen hit a solo home run for the Vikings to level the score at 1-1.
It remained 1-1 until the bottom of the seventh.
Madison Harris (Billings, Mont./Billings West HS) doubled to center to lead off the frame. A
Nicole Anders (Port Angeles, Wash./Sequim HS) sacrifice moved Harris to third.
Josie Fourre (Albany, Minn./Albany HS) then brought her in with a single through the left side for the game-winning walk-off hit to make the final 2-1.
Vanessa Kohl (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) won the game on the mound for the Saints, only giving up three hits and striking out six in the complete game. Harris was 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the offense.
Game 2: CSS 8, BLC 1
Alexa Bremer (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) opened the scoring for the Saints by leading off the bottom of the first with a home run over the left field fence. It was Bremer again doing damage in the second with a two-out, two-run double to make it 3-0.
In the bottom of the third,
Skylar Gunderson (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) scored off an RBI by
Madison Harris (Billings, Mont./Billings West HS) for the Saints to increase their lead to 4-0. The Saints added three more runs in the fifth with a Harris RBI doubles and Anderson two-run single to make it 7-0. Meanwhile, pitcher
Maggie Schley (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) was perfect through five innings. That ended in the top of the sixth with a lead-off home run to dead center. to make it 7-1. Rydlund had a RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to make the final 8-1.
Schley earned the complete game victory, striking out four. Schley helped herself at the plate with three doubles in the game. Bremer was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a triple shy of the hitting for the cycle.

The Saints (18-11, 12-2 UMAC) welcome Crown College to Kenwood Field tomorrow for Senior Day and the last games of the regular season. The first game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
