DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) -- The College of St. Scholastica softball team defeated Northland College by scores of 8-4 and 16-4 in doubleheader action on Tuesday at Saints Field.

Game 1: CSS 8, Northland 4
The Saints would take the lead early, scoring three runs in the first inning, and would lead for the rest of the game. A Maggie Schley (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) infield single scored Alexa Bremer (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) and an error allowed Hannah Thul (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) to score. Madison Harris (Billings, Mont./Billings West HS) followed with a RBI single.

Schley and Harris added RBIs in the third as did Killyn Kanters (Hayward, Wis./HACIL Charter School) to extend the lead to 6-1. An RBI triple by Josie Fourre (Albany, Minn./Albany HS) and a RBI double by Bremer in the sixth inning made it 8-1. Northland scored three late to make the final 8-4.

Vanessa Kohl (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) won the game on the mound for the Saints, striking out 10 in the complete game. Schley was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Game 2: CSS 16, Northland 4
The Saints put the nightcap away early by scoring seven runs in the first inning and adding three more in the second to take a 10-0 lead. CSS put together five RBI doubles in the first inning alone. Kanters had a RBI triple as part of the three-run second inning.

The LumberJills would make the game go the distance however, as it cut the lead to 10-4 in the sixth. However, the Saints added six runs in the seventh to make the final 16-4.

On the mound for the Saints, Heidi Shelton (Duluth, Minn./Proctor HS (St. Cloud Tech and CC)) limited Nortland to one run in three innings of work. Audi Blonk (Spooner, Wis./Spooner HS) pitched the last four innings for the Saints and struck out six to earn her second win of the season.
