DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) - The College of St. Scholastica softball team kicked off its first home games with a pair of wins against North Central University (Minn.) on Wednesday at Saints Field. The Saints won the first game by a score of 12-0, and 9-1 in the second.
Game 1: CSS 12, North Central 0 (F/5)
The Saints scored five runs in both the first and second innings, and added two more in the third, to win the game by mercy rule in the fifth inning. Â
Alexa Bremer (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) led the Saints going 4-for-4 at the plate and scoring three times.
Cindi Rydlund (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS),
Nicole Anders (Port Angeles, Wash./Sequim HS), and
Maggie Schley (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) all scored twice.
Vanessa Kohl (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS),
Killyn Kanters (Hayward, Wis./HACIL Charter School), and
Toni Bishop (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS) all had two RBIs.
Kohl also picked up the win for the Saints, pitching three hitless innings and striking out five.
Maggie Schley (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) pitched the final two innings, striking out four and allowing just one hit.
Game 2: CSS 9, North Central 1 (F/5)
The Saints managed only six hits in game two, but three North Central (7-19, 1-9 UMAC) errors pushed six unearned runs across as the Saints would win by mercy rule once again.
In the first inning, CSS scored three times.
Alexa Bremer (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) scored off a wild pitch, and
Hannah Thul (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) and
Cindi Rydlund (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) both scored unearned runs.
In the second,
Lily Kagan (Anchorage, Alaska/Robert Service HS) scored off an RBI by Bremer. In the third, Kagan had an RBI allowing
Toni Bishop (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS) to score, and
Alex Wurzer (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) scored an unearned run to give the Saints a 6-0 lead heading into the fourth.The Saints then added a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to take the score to 9-1, and end the game by mercy rule.
Audi Blonk (Spooner, Wis./Spooner HS) picked up her first collegiate win for the Saints, only giving up two hits, while striking out five. Kagan led CSS with two RBIs, while
Hannah Thul (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) and
Toni Bishop (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS) each scored twice.
