ADRIAN, Mich. (csssaints.com) – For the second consecutive year the St. Scholastica women's hockey team saw its season end in overtime of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Slaats Cup semifinals against Lake Forest College (Ill.) as the Foresters scored eight minutes into OT to win 2-1 Friday night.

The Action
The Foresters (20-8-0) controlled the first period, out-shooting the Saints 20-4. One of those shots found the net as a CSS turnover found the stick of NCHA Player of the Year Olivia Spellmire who slid the puck past the goal line to make it 1-0 at the first intermission.

St. Scholastica shifted the ice into its favor in the second period and it paid off. Lake Forest committed the first penalty of the contest. Mac Johnson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello HS (St. Cloud State)) would first hit the pipe then moments later would hit another slap shot from the point into the net with six seconds remaining on the power-play to tie the game at 1-1 with 11:33 remaining in the period. Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) and Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) were credited with the assists.

CSS had another power-play later in the period, but came away goalless and the score stood at 1-1 at the second intermission. The Saints had the advantage in shots in the period 12-11.

St. Scholastica kept the offensive pressure on in the third period and limited the Foresters to few chances. The Saints had two power plays in the final nine minutes, but Lake Forest kept the Saints off the board. After 60 minutes it remained 1-1 as the contest went into sudden death overtime.

Eight minutes into overtime, Spellmire corralled the puck at her blue line and skated in on a 2-on-1. She would keep the puck and hit a wrist shot far side that found the net to give Lake Forest the 2-1 victory.

The Foresters advance to face top-seeded and host Adrian College (Mich.) tomorrow in the NCHA Slaats Cup Championship game.

Goaltending
Freshman Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) made 39 saves for the Saints, while Jacque Rogers had 29 saves for the Foresters.

End of Season
The Saints finish with a 16-7-5 record for the season. The 16 wins are the most in program history. CSS says goodbye to its largest senior class in program history with Kaleigh Hamann (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS), Amanda Broman (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS), Hailee Johnson (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS), Mac Johnson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello HS (St. Cloud State)), Brandi Malwitz (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS), Emily Stegora (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS (Minnesota State-Mankato)), Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) and Lindsey Wright (Anchorage, Alaska/Grace Christian HS (Team Alaska U19)) all graduating.
