RIVER FALLS, Wis. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team saw its six-game win streak come to an end with a 3-1 loss at fifth-ranked University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Tuesday night.
The Action
The Falcons (17-4-2) put a goal on the scoreboard early. After the Saints failed to convert an early power-play, River Falls scored an even-strength goal five minutes into the contest to make it 1-0.
Less than three minutes later, the Falcons made it 2-0 with another even-strength goal. The Saints killed off two UWRF power-plays to end the first period trailing by two goals.
After the Saints killed off another River Falls power-play in the second, they would get a power-play opportunity six minutes in. Just as the power-play was coming to an end,
Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) went top shelf to cut the margin to 2-1.
Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) and
Denisa Lalikova (Puchov, Slovakia/Proctor Academy, N.H.) had the assists. It would be 2-1 at the second intermission.
In the third period, River Falls went 0-for-2 on the power-play in the first 10 minutes. CSS then earned a power-play opportunity looking for the equalizer, but a give-away behind the CSS net, allowed for a UWRF short-handed goal with less than seven minutes remaining to make it 3-1.
St. Scholastica pulled the goalie with two minutes remaining, but would not get a shot on goal. River Falls came out on top 3-1.
