ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's basketball team prevailed over Crown College 56-40 Saturday afternoon at the Wild Athletic Center to close the regular season. The Saints have won every meeting at Crown by double figures.

The Action
Emelia Miner (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS) got things started for the Saints with a layup. CSS would lead by as much as eight points in the first quarter following a Rashonna Thomas (Minneapolis, Minn./Columbia Heights HS (Anoka-Ramsey CC)) basket. CSS led 15-9 going into the second quarter.

In the second quarter, St. Scholastica led as by as much as 10 points after a pair of good free throws from Danielle Cieluch (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS). The Storm (10-15, 5-11 UMAC) cut the margin down to five at the half with Saints up 27-22.

In the second half, the closest Crown came to grabbing the lead was three points at the start of the third quarter, but St. Scholastica's Sam Brannen (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS)'s two free throws began a 7-0 run to extend the lead back to 10. CSS led 38-31 after thee quarters of play.

The Saints then put the game away early in the fourth quarter scoring 15 of the first 19 points. CSS went on to win by a final score of 56-40.

Top Performances for CSS
Michala Walther (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) scored a total of 14 points, and Thomas added 11 points. Miner finished with 10 points. Cieluch grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Holly VanKempen (Elbow Lake, Minn./West Central HS) had three blocks to up her program record career total to 151.

Top Performances for Crown
Desiree Davis scored 15 points, and had seven rebounds. Andrea Besa and Rose Crowns had a total of six rebounds each.

The Saints (14-11, 9-7 UMAC) will head to the University of Northwestern (Minn.) for the first round of the UMAC Tournament Monday. The action is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
