DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's hockey team honored its eight seniors on Saturday afternoon and pulled out a 3-1 win over Trine University (Ind.) at Mars Lakeview Arena.

The Action
The Saints scored first, just a few minutes after they were unable to score on an early power play. Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) put the puck in, just shy of the seven minute mark in the period, earning a point in her seventh consecutive game. She was assisted by Amanda Broman (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS) and Mac Johnson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello HS (St. Cloud State)) on the play. The Thunder would have a power play chance too, late in the period, but the Saints killed it off and the game went to intermission with CSS up 1-0.

In the second period, the Saints scored early, once again after an unsuccessful power play, though they managed to get five shots on goal while they had the skater advantage. Broman scored the goal for her second point of the game, assisted on the scoring play by Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS). Thompson, like Klaas, has also recorded at least one point in the last seven games. In the rest of the period, the Saints saw another power play chance, some four-on-four play, and a penalty kill in which they allowed no shots to reach goal, and the score would stand at 2-0 as second intermission began.

The Thunder (4-15-1, 2-14-0 NCHA) made a run for the lead in the third period on a power play goal from Kailey Cameron, the first that the Saints have allowed in the last five games. This put the score at 2-1 at the halfway point of the period, which was a bit too close for comfort for the Saints fans. Luckily, a power play goal from Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) eased the tension and gave CSS a two goal lead at 3-1, though the goal didn't come until the final minute of the game. Sawyer was assisted by Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Kaleigh Hamann (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) on her third goal of the two-game series.

Goaltending
Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) was in net for CSS, making 17 saves on the 18 shots faced. Ryan Harth took the loss for Trine, making 34 saves on 37 shots.
