EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team dropped its second game in the UWEC Tip-Off Classic 88-69 against the host, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Saturday.
The Action
The Blugolds (4-0) began the night with a layup and St. Scholastica's
Alison Huber (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS (Hibbing CC)) responded with a layup of her own soon after to put the first couple of points on the board. The majority of the first half followed this fashion with the teams exchanging the lead every couple of points. It was not until the Blugolds went on a 11-3 run in the middle of the second quarter that they were able to pull ahead by 10, making the score 40-30. The Saints, with the help of seven points from
Mariah Pearson (Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS), were able to consistently score when the ball was in their possession to nearly cut the lead in half by the end of the second quarter.
The Saints struggled with turnovers early in the third quarter to allow the Blugolds to continue to control the 55-46 game. St. Scholastica only scored twice for the remainder of the period, entering the third at 69-51. Near the end of the fourth, the Saints went on an 8-0 run, but it was not enough to overturn the distance Eau Claire created.
The Blugolds took the game 88-69.
