MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (
csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's hockey team settled for a 2-2 tie against Augsburg University Saturday afternoon in the series finale.
The Action
In the first period, Augsburg outshot the Saints 12-1.
Paige Forsman (Cokato, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS) recorded CSS' only shot nine minutes into the period.
In the second period, the Auggies broke through first, scoring six minutes into the period. With just over five minutes left in the period, Forsman assisted
Courtney Bloemke (Nicollet, Minn./Mankato West HS) for her first collegiate goal to tie the game at 1-1.
A minute into the third period, the Saints quickly took the lead as
Kayla Kasel (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) scored her first collegiate goal off of an assist from fellow freshman
Mariah Haedrich (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS), giving the Saints a 2-1 advantage. However, 40 seconds later Augsburg equaled the score at 2-2 and ultimately sent the game into overtime.
In overtime, the Saints would have to kill-off a 5-on-3 for one minute and did so with
Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) making four saves during that span. The Saints then would get a power-play late in overtime, but would not get a puck on net as the contest ended in a 2-2 tie.
Goaltending
Thomeczek saved 45 of 47 shots on goals she faced. Augsburg goaltender Annie Juergens stopped 12 of 14 shots.
