csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's hockey team triumphed over Aurora University (Ill.) 6-1 Saturday afternoon at Mars Lakeview Arena.
First Period
Mac Johnson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello HS (St. Cloud State)) assisted
Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) for the first goal of the game to put the score at 1-0 with less than six minutes remaining in the firts period. Aurora fought back and scored four minutes later, tying the game at 1-1.
42 seconds later the Saints responded as
Kaleigh Hamann (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) and
Tessa Lowry (Calgary, Alberta/Edge School) assisted
Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS). It was Sawyer's 10th goal of the season, which gave CSS a 2-1 lead at the first intermission.
Second Period
A minute in,
Giorgia Battisti (Bolzano, Italy/Rice Memorial HS (Vermont)) made quick work and scored, putting the Saints up 3-1. CSS did not score again until there was three minutes left in the period. Hamann assisted
Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS), extending St. Scholastica's lead to 4-1 into the third period.
Third Period
Two minutes into the third period,
Amanda Broman (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS) assisted
Hailey Raske (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS) to make the score 5-1.
Midway through the period, Anderson, with the assist from
Greta Nundahl (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS), scored her second goal of the game to give the game its final score of 6-1.
Goaltending
For goaltending, St. Scholastica's
Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) played the first 50 minutes, stopping 13 of 14 shots.
Maddy Benson (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield HS) played the last 10 minutes, stopping all seven shots he faced. Aurora's Chiara Pfosi stopped 47 out of 53 shots she faced.
