DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's hockey team swept Concordia University Wisconsin with a 4-1 win on Saturday afternoon at Mars Lakeview Arena.

The Action
Both squads got a shot at power play goals in the first period before Mac Johnson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello HS (St. Cloud State)) netted the first goal on the third power play of the game with less than two minutes remaining in the opening period. She was assisted by Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS), her first of three assists on the day. With a minute left, the Saints put a player in the box, but killed off half the penalty to end the period.

The Saints killed the remaining minute of the penalty to start the second period and had a shot at a power play goal not long after the penalty kill ended. They would not score on the chance, however Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) earned the second goal of the game for the Saints with both teams at full strength halfway into the second period. She, too, was assisted by Anderson. To make the score 3-0, M. Johnson scored her second goal of the game and third of the season three minutes after a five-minute major penalty for contact to the head put a CUW player in the box. M. Johnson was assisted by Kaleigh Hamann (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) and Anderson on the play. The Saints had two more power play opportunities before the second intermission, but would not score on either.

The third period saw the Falcons earning their first goal of the game on the power play from Lexi Holman. This was the first power play goal allowed by CSS in the last five games. To give the game its final score of 4-1, Giorgia Battisti (Bolzano, Italy/Rice Memorial HS (Vermont)), assisted by Amanda Broman (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS), put one between the goaltender's legs with just over four minutes left in the game.

Goaltending
Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) was in net for CSS making 29 saves out of the 30 shots she faced. For Concordia, Christina Pattengale took the "L", making 26 total saves.
