RIVER FALLS, Wis. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's soccer team earned a 3-2 victory over the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Wednesday, its first victory outside of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) this season.
The Action
The Saints fell behind in the 18th minute on a goal from Falcon Kayla Windingstad. With just under seven minutes left in the first half, River Falls struck again, this time on a Jasmine Hunn goal to put the Falcons up 2-0. The Saints would not go quietly into halftime though, and Hannah Zeis (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) scored an unassisted goal, her first score of the season, with two minutes left in the half to put the Saints on the board.
Zeis wouldn't quit after one, however, and thanks to an assist from Janelle Rouillard (Dayton, Minn./Rogers HS), she put another one past the keeper in the 60th minute to tie the score at 2-2. The Falcons put a few shots on goal in the tail end of the second half, but goalkeeper Roni Rudolph (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) was on her game and helped the Saints keep the score at 2-2. In the 72nd minute, Becca Rancour (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS) scored the go ahead goal, her 10th of the season, to make the score 3-2. Rouillard was in on the play too and earned her second assist of the game, her fourth of the season. The clubs battled it out for the last 20 minutes of the contest, with River Falls hitting the post and Roni Rudolph making key saves. The Saints would hold the one-goal lead for their first out-of-conference victory.
