csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team suffered a pair of 3-0 losses on Saturday to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Buena Vista University (Iowa) to wrap up play at the Kathryn Pals Legacy Invitational, hosted by the University of Northwestern.
UWSP 3, CSS 0
The Saints opened against UW-Stevens Point late in the morning and the Pointers took the match 25-18, 25-15 and 25-17 to improve to 2-1 on the year.
CSS never led in the first set as it trailed 11-3 at one point. The Saints got within 22-18, but Point took the final three points of the set. The Saints had their best hitting percentage of the match in the second set at .242, however, Stevens Point countered with a .500 attack percentage. The Pointers used a 13-2 run to take control of the set. CSS had the score tied at 12-12 in the third set, before Point went on an 8-3 run and ultimately ended the match in three sets.
Brooke Elvehjem (Mora, Minn./Mora HS) led St. Scholastica with nine kills.
Emily Bounds (Hill City, Minn./Hill City HS) and
Christaia Houser (Esko, Minn./Homeschool) each added six kills.
Espi Austvold (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) had 22 assists and
McKenzie Orr (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake HS) recorded 11 digs.
Buena Vista 3, CSS 0
In the final match, the Beavers also improved to 2-1 with a three set win by scores of 25-21, 25-17 and 25-20.
The Saints recorded a tournament low 27 points, while Buena Vista had 57 points. In each of the first two sets, the Beavers had a spurt that put enough cushion between themselves and the Saints. In the third set, the Saints took a 19-18 lead off a kill by
Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS). Unfortunately, the Beavers recorded seven of the next eight points to take the set and the match.
Morgan Lohmiller (Pequot Lakes, Minn./Pequot Lakes HS) paced the Saints with seven kills. Austvold had 10 assists, while Thompson had a team-high nine digs.

The Saints (1-3) return to the Twin Cities next weekend when they take part in the Augsburg College Tournament. CSS will open with the University of St. Thomas and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Friday.
