KISSIMMEE, Fla. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team concluded its action at the Rebel Spring Games on Sunday by going 1-1 on the day for the sixth time on the trip.
Loras 2, CSS 0
The Saints opened the day facing unbeaten Loras College (Iowa). Both teams combined for six errors and the Duhawks came out on top 2-0 to remain undefeated.
The Duhawks began with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. The Saints loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the third. Unfortunately, CSS hit two straight lineouts and grounded out to come away scoreless.
After the Saints stranded a runner at third in the top of the sixth, Loras scored off a CSS error in the bottom frame to extend the lead to 2-0, which would be the final.
Chrisi Mizera (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East HS) struck out seven in the loss for the Saints. Emily Reilly allowed three hits in the victory over the Duhawks (9-0). Megan Larson had two of Loras' four hits.
CSS 6, Wash. & Jeff. 2
The Saints rebounded in the second game of the morning to defeat Washington & Jefferson College (Pa.) 6-2 to end action at the Rebel Spring Games.
The Presidents got on the board with a RBI double in the top of the first. It remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth when the Saints loaded the bases. A two-out error allowed
Cindi Rydlund (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) and
Olivia Bretting (Ashland, Wis. /Ashland HS ) to score to give CSS a 2-1 lead.
Toni Bishop (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS) followed with a RBI double to plate
Maggie Schley (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) to make it 3-1.
St. Scholastica added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth. CSS hit three straight singles to load the bases.
Alexa Bremer (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) and Schley followed with back-to-back RBI groundouts to extend the lead to 5-1. Another President error allowed Bretting to score and the Saints led 6-1.
Washington & Jefferson scored a run in top of the sixth to make the final 6-2 CSS.
Schley earned her first win of the season, recording five strikeouts in the complete game. Rydlund and Bretting each had two hits to lead the St. Scholastica offense.

The Saints (6-10) are off until Saturday, April 1 when they are scheduled to have their home and Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opener against the University of Minnesota Morris.
