DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) -- The St. Scholastica women's hockey was downed by No. 3 Adrian College (Mich.) 3-0 Saturday afternoon. This is the second time the Saints have been shutout this season.

Adrian's First
The game started out slow, but six minutes into the first period, a minor penalty was called on the Bulldogs for hooking. CSS fought hard to try to get the puck past the Adrian goalie. But, the team was able to only shoot four blocked shots in the Adrian zone, with three being shot by Mac Johnson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello HS (St. Cloud State)).

With seven minutes left to go in the period, Adrian would go on the power-play, but would be stopped a few seconds later due to coincidental penalties being called on both teams, one for roughing and the other for elbowing. The Bulldogs were still had a 4-on-3 advantage after this call.

Adrian had four seconds left in their power play when they would be able to sneak the puck past the CSS goaltender and score, giving them the lead with the score of 1-0. St. Scholastica would fight hard to tie up the score, but would be unable to and the Bulldogs would lead 1-0 going into the second.

Two Goal Second
To start the second, a penalty would be called quickly on an Adrian player for interference, giving St. Scholastica their second power play of the game. The Saints would not be able to score off this power play. CSS would not have to worry about the extra player on the ice because another penalty for interference would be called on Adrian two seconds later. CSS, however, would be unable to score here as well.

A minute after St. Scholastica's power play ended, a penalty would be called on a CSS player for tripping. The Bulldogs made quick work of the power play, and were able to score in 10 seconds, bringing their lead to 2-0. A minute later, Adrian would score again, bringing their lead to 3-0.

Five more penalties would be called in this period, three on the Bulldogs and two on the Saints. This includes two coincidental penalties. Even with the many power play opportunities, neither team would be able to get a goal and the score would be 3-0 going into the third period.

The Third Period
Three penalties would be called on CSS during this period, which hurt St. Scholastica's chances of trying to tie the game up and push the game into overtime to get a possible win. The Saints were greatly out shot as well in this period by the Bulldogs. With St. Scholastica only having a few attempts to score, Adrian would win and shutout the Saints 3-0.

Top Performances
St. Scholastica's Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)), NCHA Offensive Player of the Week, had four shots on goal. Emily Stegora (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS (Minnesota State-Mankato)) and Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS) shot two each.

For goaltending, St. Scholastica goaltender Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) stopped 38 out of 41 shots she faced. Adrian's Jade Walsh stopped 13 out of the 13 shots she faced.
