Women's Hockey Home Opener Friday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team will have its first action at Mars Lakeview Arena on Friday when it opens a home-and-home series with Northland College.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints opened conference play with a series sweep of Marian University (Wis.) last weekend.
-St. Scholastica is the only remaining unbeaten team in the NCHA after only two weeks into the season.
-Senior Emily Stegora (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS (Minnesota State-Mankato)) scored the game-winning goal in each victory and has recorded two points in each of the first three games of the season.
-For her efforts, Stegora was named the NCHA Offensive Player of the Week and named to D3hockey.com Team of the Week.
-Junior Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) has recorded at least one point in each of the first three games.
-Junior Denisa Lalikova (Puchov, Slovakia/Proctor Academy, N.H.) is second in the conference among defenseman with five points in the early going.
-In her first collegiate start, Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) stopped all 25 shots she faced to earn the shutout Saturday against Marian.
-The Saints rank second in the conference, allowing 1.3 goals per game.
-CSS is 1-for-6 on power-plays in each of the first three games.
-The Saints have won their last four home openers and are 5-1-1 all-time in home openers.

What You Need to Know about Northland:
-The LumberJills enter this weekend's series with a 2-2 overall record and 1-1 in league action.
-The LumberJills are in their second year as a program.
-Northland is coming off an historic 3-2 victory over previously-ranked No. 2 Adrian College (Mich.) last Saturday.
-The 'Jills have split each of their first two series, dropping the first game, but taking the second contest.
-Sophomore forward Samantha Scott leads the team with two goals.
-Sophomores Robyn Matula and Kylie Fahmer each have a team-high two assists.
-Sophomore Maggie Cusey and freshman Gabby Suhr have split time in goal with each picking up a win.
-Suhr was named the NCHA Defensive Player of the Week and named to D3hockey.com Team of the Week for her 64 saves against Adrian.
-Northland is 1-for-16 on the power-play thus far.

Series History: This will be the first meeting between the two programs.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints make the trip to Lower Michigan to face reigning league champion and national runner-up Adrian College for a two-game NCHA series on November 17 and 18.
